Lego Harry Potter 4865 Foribbean Forest Review

Here's a review on the Harry Potter 4865, Foribbean Forest, i bought this set a few months ago, fixed it last week. The reason i added this set is i'm using the minifigures for my castle/kingdoms. Purchased this set at a discount price of SGD 20.90. Pretty good price to pay for 4 nice minifigures.

This set is released in 1 Jun 2011, it recreates the scene of Harry Postter and the Deathly Hallows, where Harry Potter enters the Forbidden Forest to meet his fate at the hands of Lord Voldemort. This set includes a small tree, four minifigures: Harry Potter, Rubeus Hagrid, Lord Voldemort and Narcissa Malfoy.

Lego Super Heroes 6858 Catwoman Catcycle City Chase Review

Here's a review on the set 6858 Catwoman Catcycle City Chase, it took me less than 10 mins to finish fixing this little set. Satisfaction level: 90%. I'm happy with the catwoman figure & the catcycle, but for batman, i will just say it is average to me, i don't know but i prefer the catwoman figure more than the batman.

Overall this is a nice set, with 2 collectible minifigures, new Lego Newspaper, cute traffic light and it can be used for city modular buildings too (just that the lamp post is a bit too short).

Legoland Malaysia Latest Update Feb 2012

On Tuesday Straits Times, 31 Jan, there is a latest report on the Malaysia Legoland. Singapore visitors key for Legoland. I would just post a few statements here for your information. The news article talk about the new rides, visitors expectation, entrance cost and a few others.

"All in all 5 million lego bricks had been used for the Legoland."

"The day passes which will be on sale in 2 months, are RM140 for adult and RM110, RM30 discount for Malaysian showing their identity card. The Malaysia's opposition has criticised the government for pouring millions into a theme park which may never earn back its RM720 million investment."

There isn't any typo mistake....RM 720 MILLION!! for the manpower & cost of 5 million bricks?

The exact location of Legoland in Johor Malaysia, a 10 mins drive from Singapore

The park will be opened in September or October 2012. LegoAsia will be the first to visit the park and we will have a special field report with tons of pictures.

Fun with Market Street

A few days ago (during chinese new year holiday), i was trying to create a market scene for the market street modular (not satisfied with the original crates of fruits & vegetables), now this little corner was busier with more variety of goods for sales. From fresh fruits & vegetables to mugs, pots, pans, brooms and mops. Plus adding 2 minifigures.

Sorry for the poor photos without focus, i'm unable to take close up with my D7000. Will try to update more pictures later.

Lego Minifigures Series 6 HUNT

Price: SGD 4.90 each
purchased a total of 21 packs, some of them are for my sis & a friend

Didn't intend to collect the full set this time round, at $4.90 each. It will cost around $80 for the full 16 figures, about 20% price increase from the usual $3.90. Series 5 was at S$4.50 each.

I requested for another box of minifigures from the staff, after the box in the store was kind of raid of the nice figures, there are 3 buyers before me, they had selected most of the "hot" figures away. The 1st guy got around 10 plus figures, the second guy around 15 figures, there was a girl buying a few. And i'm probably the 4th person inside the store to select from this box, after lunch time.

There are no codes on the pack, to get the figures you want, just touch & feel.

ROMAN SOLDIER, HIGHLAND BATTLER, MINOTAUR, BANDIT, CLASSIC ALIEN, GENIE, LEPRECHAUN, INTERGALACTIC GIRL, BUTCHER, MECHANIC, SKATER GIRL, SURGEON, SLEEPYHEAD, CLOCKWORK ROBOT, LADY LIBERTY and FLAMENCO DANCER.

The figures in red are the must have figures for me this time round... in blue are the "still alright" figures to collect. For the remaining... not too keen.

The Lego Minifigures Series 6 is now on sales in US. I believe we will be getting the figures shortly too, in Singapore. I'm not too sure of the price at the moment, it should be SGD4.50 each.
As usual, if possible i will provide the "code" for getting the figure you want.

The S6 is one of the most anticipated series, ever since i wrote a post last year (sneak preview), it had been one of the top popular post.

In this issue, it reported on the company's effect to finally click with girls. Holding onto a yellow minifigure head, Friends send a message ---> watch out boys.

In late 2011, LEGO announced a second season set to air in 2012 on Cartoon Network. The second season will be called Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu: Rise of the Snakes. The new episodes would air after a total of six mini-movies on Ninjago.Lego.Com leading up to the 13-part film, each either showing the four Ninja going on misadventures, or some even revealing more about Sensei Wu and Lord Garmadon's past, specifically the final mini-movie Battle Between Brothers.

On a Sunday afternoon, i spend less than 1 hr to fix this set, i won't say this is a superb piece, what is special about this ship is being black throughout (i do like it) plus nice minifigures, Davy Jones & Maccus the hammerhead being my favourite. I don't really get the "wow" factor while fixing the ship, at around 800 pieces, in my opinion it is just too few pieces to really enjoy the building process. QAR has 1094 pieces, that is almost 3oo pieces more!

For local buyers who are getting this ship, i would recommend buying it at 20% off (which i got mine), or if you can't wait then at least get a 10% off. At $189.90, it is on the high side, a breakdown of $0.23 per piece.

Most of us are amazed by the lego grand carousel, so here are some pictures of the carousel I came across at Yongin Everland, Korea. I didn't take the ride, having limited time inside the park, maybe will do so some other day. Yes it played nice music when started.

Around Dongdaemun, the area where we were dropped

Dear readers, i'm back from my Korea trip. First, i would like to thank all those who continued to visit the blog, even through there isn't a single post in more than 10 days! I managed to come across Lego on the last day before taking a flight back to Singapore. Most of the departmental stores & duty free store we visited during the last 2 days sells clothings and others. There isn't much time to shop, most of the places we went to are tourist attractions.

Markings on the map, Toy Street (told by the girl at the info counter) was a street where we can find pets products, toys & stationery, it is a distribution area & at wholesale prices (Cheap!) If you notice, there was no street name on the map itself, as a wholesale/distribution area, i guess it is not really for tourists. We had asked 3 times (different person, once on the street where there are tourist friendly girls in tag, who speak mandarin) before we were told of this place.

On the last day in South Korea (16 Nov), we went to Dongdaemun Bonded Wear Wholesale Market and New Cheongye Clothing store. In the last hour or so before boarding the bus to airport, we checked with the information counter asking where to buy stationery (my sis was looking for stickers, pens). The problem in Korea is they uses Korean sign boards everywhere (there isn't any English). Not even Chinese, at least if there are Chinese characters on the sign board, i'm able to read. Very few Koreans speak Mandarin (used to be their official language) because of the long history with China..communication problem for tourist.

We are supposed to board the bus at 3:30 pm. When we managed to locate the place (toy street) on the map, it was already 3pm. From the map, I determine that it will take around 10 mins (fast walking) to reach the street from our current location. So was left with just around 10 -15 mins or so to check out the whole place!! :(

the store has lego posters outside their store, they do carry quite a wide range of lego and other toys

the price of lego is much cheaper than what we can get in Singapore, didn't buy any as it is troublesome to carry back.

all lego are at 20% discount, however i do not know if there are further discount on the price tag, i didn't ask as i'm not buying and nobody speaks English.(was rushing just snap a picture with my DSLR without focus)

Head-scratching in Florida over Lego Man

A huge Lego sculpture that mysteriously appeared last week on a Florida beach will remain in police custody for 90 days while investigators try to figure out its owner.

The more than 2.4m-tall Lego Man weighing about 45kg turned up on the sands of Siesta Key beach off Florida's gulf coast last Tuesday, but no one has claimed responsibility for putting it there.

A swimmer first reported the green, yellow and red sculpture which says " No Real Than You Are" on the front, and "Ego Leonard" on the back.

The Danish manufacturer of the widly popular brick-building toys - which opened the world's largest Legoland in Orlando, Florida earlier this month - has denied any involvement.

In January, grand piano appeared mysteriously on a tiny sandbar in Miami's Biscayne Bay, and weeks later, a 16-year old boy owned up.

He had moved the piano onto the beach with the help of his father in a bid to make a video to help him get into a Manhattan art school.

A lego friend shared this picture on his facebook today. Daiso has another larger display case (this got to be the largest size), it is able to house 4 series of minifigures, a total of 64 figures. Just squeeze all of them in, would like to have 1 too.

The above case is purchased from Malaysia Daiso, only avaliable at selected stores. I haven't came across this in Singapore.

Update: Received a call today 30th Sept, the lego wedding set is now temporary removed from the Singapore market by lego. Reason: there are some defects in this set. I had opened this set and i wonder what's the problem.

A review of the Lego Wedding Set, 853340. Total of 24 pieces. It was available in Singapore for a short 2 days in a shop, and was sold out. I presume this set will be widely avaliable in store shortly.

Was checking the price on US ebay, this morning a set was sold for USD31 (exclude postage). The average price was around USD25-28. So there are buyers who are willing to pay around USD30 (excluding shipping fees)!

This time round, the minifigures breakdown is quite good in my opinion. There are at less 3 sets per box. Unlike the earlier series where we only got 2 elf and 2 spartan in a box of 60 minifigures. There are 5 grenadier guard & dinosaur suit man (which are popular figures) from the box (most likely other boxes will be having the same breakdown). Lego should continue give a good breakdown like series 5. We are aware of the earlier frustration of being unable to get the spartan and elf from retail (but i think i managed to do so when there was a new box)

Retail price in US 119.95. Singapore RP at S$299.90, after 20% discount at sales S$239.92. At an exchange rate of 1.25, the price in USA is at S$150. We pay S$90 more (after 20% discount), that's about 38% difference in price. Without the 20% sales, we pay an additional of S$149.90, around 50% more. I can certainly get a lot of lego with S$150!

Having paid less than USD 100 for this box including airmail from US, buyers can always source for cheap lego online. No doubt Lego Singapore is in business, but we hope they can review the lego prices here, we are having a 10-15% increament every year for the last 3 years. Lego is getting more expensive in Asia, but the prices in US are not increasing that much. The reason is we had a smaller market here.

Lego Annual Toys 'R' Us Sales at United Square

The yearly Toys 'R' Us Lego Sales is here again at Novena United Square (from 19- 21 Aug), as advertised, the discount was up to 55%. This year my friends & I didn't bother to queue up and went into "battle" mode -battling for our lego, having done that for the last 2 years. After last year feedbacks from the public (or complaints), each customer is limited to 3 per box for the same item, no stacking of lego at one corner.

Reached Novena during lunch time around 1pm. The sales started at 11pm, my friend told me that there are people queuing up last evening (the usual practice). My sis was in the line, she queued for 2 hrs before getting into "shopping arena". Took another 1 hr to queue up for payment.

Sales items for this year are mainly CARS, Atlantis, Hero Factory, Prince of Persia, Bionicle, Racers, Toys Story, Space Police, Dulop, Technics and City, a few sets of Harry Potter, Pirates of Caribbean, Pharaoh's Quest and Castle. One reason the local forum AFOLs didn't turn out is because they ain't really interested in these sets.

How do you get accepted for a university place apart from your school results?

As reported in today's Straits Times, Mr Teh Jun Hao, 18 got into the new university Singapore University of Technology & Design (SUTD) by building a 1.5m long submersible aircraft carrier out of Lego - complete with battery-operated moving parts - and submitted a youtube video of the process as part of his application to SUTD.

Using 10,000 bricks, he had multi-color bricks for the interior (we know grey bricks are hard to get). However the planes & helicopters don't seem to be lego pieces.

From the Taiwan Lego forum, they mentioned this is a leak from the lego factory in China, showing 10 of the 16 figures. In one of the forum post (i had read all the posts), someone mentioned the figures are currently for sale on China auction site Taobao.

Looking at the quality, they are indeed Lego product and a few of these figures here could be on the list of Series 6. (Statue of Liberty & Grey Alien)

The white chrome helmet is the most expensive piece, together with the white plumes. White horse headdress are rare and hard to find.

Classic knights having the dark grey sword, comparing it with today's Kingdoms set, the older vintage sword was made of hard plastic (it cost more in price now)

the current kingdoms knights (superb design on the barding, shield, horse headgear), but too light weight.

Comparing with the early 90s horse barding, we prefer the earlier ones, in terms of quality. The quality has drop over the years (material wise)

Will lego Kingdoms cost more in the next few years (price increase) as compared with the earlier Fantasy Castle (2007-09)?

If we look in terms of designs, no doubt the current Kingdoms version (2010 & 2011) are nicer, having detailed design with prints on the body torso (both front & back), printed legs, horse headgear with horn and horse barding.

As a castle fan, the current plastic feel is just different, comparing with the 90s. Nicer design & print (increase in printing cost, since printed on both sided for the torso), but the weight is less, and it gives an impression of cheap mass produced plastic.

Don't think the price for the current Kingdoms sets (minifigures) will increase that much as compared with Castle theme (skeleton, dwarves & fantasy knights and the sets). As a castle fan, most of us have no intention of building a big kingdoms army.

Whether there will be a price increase on these Kingdoms in the near future, depends on the demand from collectors, with so many different themes coming up this year and probably next year. Buyers will have some budget on what to spend to stretch this hobby in the long run.

Lego Western 6769 Fort Legoredo 1996 Review

Here is a 2 part series on Lego Western 6769 Fort Legoredo, this 1996 set has 639 Parts, 10 Minifigs. I received the set from Canada last week at a very good price. A few missing pieces, i managed to buy them separately before the surface mail arrive, however there are more missing pieces. At the moment i'm short of a blue hat & a cannon, plus 6 x Reddish Brown Brick, Modified 1 x 2 Log (used to join the fort together at the edge).

Star Wars Millennium Falcon Lego or Vintage?

nice, but out of budget :P

I always thought that spending on classic vintage toys is a much more expensive hobby as compared to buying toys off the shelves at retail. The time, energy & luck in getting the vintage piece is certainly 100 times more challenging than just buying a toy off the shelf. Now this new Lego SW (plus all license products) are over-rated and definitely overpriced.

it all began in 1979....

This picture was taken back in 2006, when i aquired the 1979 Star Wars Millennium Falcon Spaceship MIB (including cardboard inserts), figures are not included. It cost less than the new Lego MF (factor in inflation & price today), even if i were to include the 6 loose perfect mint condition figures. The R2-D2 can easily be more than USD 20, a 1979 Luke will not be less than USD 25. A C9.5 Ben around USD 25. The six figures are valued between USD 100 - 120. For vintage stuff, the price is constant and had appreciated over the years.

This photo had been used by dozens on the internet even appearing in youtube clips, gathered more than 5,000 pageviews on flickr. (5.8k views when i checked today). A 1979 rare almost perfect box MF, more than 30 years old.

In terms of collection value, i knew lego cannot be compared with others. Lego is for fun and play. But the real value of lego (in terms of price) is certainly not there, it is not worth that in my opinion. Price is always determined by actual demand and how rare an item is, and whether someone is willing to pay the price. Spending $300... i'm skipping this.

Lego Kingdoms FINALLY Here! Mill Village Raid

Since the post on 7 Nov 2010, on the speculation/rumours on the possible windmill. To the official confirmation from Lego on 24 Dec post (which i predicted correctly on the release month in Singapore), it had been exactly 8 months. Today finally got this much anticipated set, with these 4 new sets, it is going to be a good weekend for kingdoms fans in Singapore!

Lego Pirates of the Caribbean Battle Pack Review

Having a close study with the earlier figures from 4191 Captain's Cabin to spot any difference. There is always a saying that the quality of the minifigures from the battle packs are usually not as good as those from the box set. It happens in Kingdoms and a few others. Overall i don't see much difference, but i still prefer the figures from the box set.

Yeoman zombie is not suppose to have the weapon sling, the hair becomes loose and come off quite easily. Fans will not mind the additional piece, good to hold the weapon and keep the hands free.

The Jack figure from the battle pack is unable to hold the compass. I'm not sure if the problem lies with the tile compass? The figure's hand is just too widen.

Overall nice to have this battlepack. More Zombie soldiers & King George's Officers for army builders.

Lego Pirates of the Caribbean Battle Pack (Jul Update)

The Pirates of the Caribbean Battle Pack is now out for sale in Singapore. The retail price at S$20.90, works out to around $4 for each figure which is quite good!

The 5 minifigures Captain Jack Sparrow, Gunner Zombie, Yeoman Zombie, Scrum and King George's Officer.

The new Star Wars KeyChain Shaak Ti at S$6.90

Hope to buy a Shaak Ti minifigure one of these days, she's one of the most expensive Stars Wars Jedi master figure.

The new alien conquest battle pack (reminds me of ipad game Tower Defense) the attacking aliens. Retail price at $24.90.

5 minifigures: Alien Invader Trooper, 2 Alien Defense Unit Soldier, Alien Invader Pilot and Business man.

The New Alien Conquest sets are avaliable in retail today (check the earlier blog post on each individual sets). They do look nice, but not into those at the moment. (waiting for discount & sales)

Lego SpongeBob SquarePants 3834 Good Neighbours at Bikini Bottom Review

Was at my sis's house yesterday and my niece who is currently in primary school, received this new set last week, 3834 Good Neighbours at Bikini Bottom (set for 7 to 12 yrs old). Honestly while writing this review i had to refer to the lego site, i have zero knowledge on Spongebob Squarepants. The figures and parts are cute, this adds to the attractiveness of the set. Set was purchased at 20% discount.

In 2006 released, the set 3827 Adventures in Bikini Bottom also featured the pineapple house and the boat, this set 3834 is supposed to be an re-released, featuring more accessories.
